Orozco, Norma
From: Linsey Onken <info@sg.actionnetwork.org>
Sent: Saturday, June 11, 2022 2:40 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Please end Santa Ana's discriminatory Residential Permit Parking Program
Santa Ana Public Comment email,
Dear City Councilmembers, Mayor Sarmiento, and Public Works,
I have lived in Santa Ana for almost 13 years in my condo in Hillview Regency. Parking here
has never been ideal, but it used to be manageable. We can't just pick up and move, we can't
just have fewer cars, we can't just not work or get parking tickets daily, we shouldn't not be
able to have friends and family over. We are homeowners and pay property taxes just as the
people in the surrounding neighborhoods. Taking away all the street parking except for by
permit, but then now allowing us residents to get permits is discrimination. All of the houses
have 2-3 garage spaces, 2-3 driveway spots and then accessibility to street permits, but
complain that their neighbors need somewhere to park. We are not asking for the streets to
be opened up and no permits. We are simply demanding that we are able to get the permits
to be able to park on the streets in our neighborhood that we pay for with our tax dollars. This
issue cannot be resolved any other way. We need the permits and you need to allow us to
have them. How would you like to come home at night after work and not know where you will
be leaving your vehicle, or how far of a walk you might have? It's unsettling and unfair and
needs to be changed.
I am a homeowner here at Hillview Regency Condominiums located in Ward 3. My fellow
residents and I have struggled for many years with the permit parking program that surrounds
our condos. The complex where we live was built in the 1960s, and the existing parking
infrastructure is insufficient for the amount of cars registered here. Our residents were once
able to park in the surrounding streets when it was necessary, but ever since the permit
parking program was implemented in our neighborhood (2005), it has become more and
more difficult to find available parking.
i
