Also, PAYP
provides 9 parents of our youth with parenting skills, economic empowerment workshops, and resources to support
their role in their children's education. Due to the ongoing pandemic, PAYP activities will take place virtually after
school, Tuesday through Friday, from 3:30-6:00 PM and/or in -person at The Cambodian Family Community Center, and
on Wednesdays, from 1:00-3:30 PM at the Minnie Street Family Resource Center (MSFRC), our community partner and
a "One Stop Shop" that provides services and support systems for families. Prosocial enrichment activities are
sometimes held on Saturdays from 9:00— 3:00 PM. Youth attend our program year-round, an average of 6-8 hours per
week. Staff and volunteers are bilingual in Cambodian, Vietnamese, or Spanish. Youth can also participate in our
Summer Enrichment Program generally held from June to August. All activities will be led by a partnership of program
staff and volunteers. Youth activities are organized around four institutes: Academic, Leadership, Career, and Health.
Parents will participate in workshops and activities that help them develop better skills to provide for, nurture, and
communicate with their children and be involved with their children's education.
Within the Academic Institute, youth will develop a strong foundation in Science, Technology, Engineering,
Mathematics (STEM) subjects, build on their literacy skills, support them in improving overall academic performance,
graduate high school, and help plan their paths toward college. To achieve this, youth counselors integrate a variety of
positive social emotional learning (SEL) techniques that simultaneously enhance their individual learning relationships
with youth and support youth's engagement with their academic learning. PAYP gives students access to our community
centerthat provides students a safe space to learn and do schoolwork. The center is equipped with computers, high-
speed internet, printing, Wi-Fi, an interactive SMART board, art supplies, and a small library to support their learning.
Staff will work closely with volunteers to provide tutoring for daily homework assignments and projects. We provide
workshops to help students prepare for SAT classes understand the college application process, learn the differences
between public/private/trade schools, and financial planning. Staff will also provide counseling sessions to help students
achieve their goals.
Within the Leadership Institute, we will help youth develop leadership and social skills, improve self-esteem and
character strengths, and nurture their passion for community engagement. Life Skills classes will address "The 7 Habits
of Highly Effective People", 6 Pillars of Character, using technology responsibly, peer pressure, bullying, conflict
resolution, generational differences, and cultural diversity.
