ROMAN CATHOLIC <br />DIOCESE E BORANGE <br />OFFICE OF - ISHOP <br />13280 CHAPMAN AVENUE, GARDEN GROVE, CA 92840 <br />Signing Authority of the Pastor in the Juridic Affairs of the Parish <br />Whereas, the parish exists and operates as a public juridic person under the care of an appointed <br />pastor in accordance with the Code of Canon Law; <br />Whereas, a parish is a certain community of the Christian faithful stably constituted in a <br />particular church, whose pastoral care is entrusted to a pastor under the authority of the diocesan <br />bishop (Can. 515 §1); <br />Whereas, the Catholic Cultural Centers in the Diocese of Orange in California are considered <br />quasi -parishes which is equivalent to a parish (Can. 516); <br />Whereas, the pastor (parochus) is the proper pastor (pastor) of the parish entrusted to him by the <br />diocesan bishop carries out the functions of teaching, sanctifying, and governing, according to <br />the norm of the law (Can. 519); <br />Whereas, a pastor must be a priest who is freely appointed by the diocesan bishop through an <br />official decree of appointment (Can. 521); <br />Whereas, a pastor must possess stability and therefore is freely appointed for a term of six years, <br />which can be renewed (Cann. 522-524); <br />Whereas, a parochial administrator is equivalent to a pastor, bound by the same duties and <br />possesses the same rights, but is not permitted to do anything which prejudices the rights of the <br />pastor or can harm parochial goods (Cann. 539-540); and <br />OFFICE; 714-282-3000 Fax: 714-282-4202 <br />
