2023-02-22 Park Santiago Restrooms
Dale Helvig
Resident, Santa Ana CA 92706

February 22, 2023

Councilmember Jesse Lopez
City of Santa Ana
20 Civic Center Plaza, 8th Floor
Santa Ana CA 92702

Subject: Park Santiago Restrooms
During last night’s discussion on the Business Calendar for the “Revive Spending Plan Update” it
was mentioned that Revive funding was allocated for upgrading park restrooms. Various parks
were then mentioned as either being done or were on a list to be done. I would like to thank you
for noticing the omission of the Santiago Park restrooms. It appeared the answer that was
provided didn’t adequately answer your concern.

It is my belief the current Santiago Park renovation covers the area from the Lawn Bowling
heading west to the log cabin area, and maybe the Main Street park entrance. The recent grant
money we heard about will address the area from the Santiago Bridge east to the 22 Freeway
overpass. What appears to be overlooked is the area between these two projects, the area from
the Santiago Bridge to the Lawn Bowling Center, i.e., the ball field and tennis courts.

Next to the ball field there is a non-functioning restroom which is always locked due to vandalism
and homeless issues. It has been this way for several years. While public works stated last night
the restroom issue was being addressed, I believe they were only referring the restrooms located
next to the playground equipment. I could be wrong.

Can you please confirm the restroom facility next to the ball field is covered by current funding
and if not, seek to have Revive funding fix this restroom. The kids have been without a
functioning restroom for way too long. It seems to me that Revive funding would be an ideal
way to correct this problem.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Respectfully,
Dale A Helvig
Resident, Santa Ana
