Hall, Jennifer
From:Susie <suzie.csandoval@gmail.com>
Sent:Monday, May 1, 2023 1:48 PM
To:eComment
Subject:May 2, 2023 City Council Agenda Item #30: Opposition

TO: Mayor Valerie Amezcua, Mayor Pro Tem Jessie Lopez, Councilmembers, Thai Viet Phan, Benjamin Vazquez, Phil
Bacerra, Johnathan Ryan Hernandez, David Penaloza

RE: City Council Meeting, Opposition to Agenda item # 30, May 2, 2023

The Santa Ana Healthy Neighborhoods Alliance (SAHNA) opposes agenda item 30:

“Request to Upgrade the Existing Type 41 On-Sale Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) License to a Type 47 On-Sale
Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) License to Allow the On-Premises Sale of Beer, Wine, and Distilled Spirits at an
Existing Eating Establishment Located at 1208 East McFadden Avenue Mariscos Hector Sports Grill.”

SAHNA’s mission is to improve the health, education and safety for children, families and residents in our
neighborhoods and our beloved community.

Approval of changing the current Type 41 license to Type 47 will have a detrimental impact on the health, safety and
quality of life for our neighborhoods and residents. Hector’s Mariscos is right next door to Kennedy elementary
school and adjacent to densely populated neighborhoods. This area is challenged with continuous loitering,
vandalism, violence that has included stabbings and shootings, drunk drivers, and graffiti. Permitting the sale of all
types of liquor will increase alcohol consumption and exacerbate our safety and public health crisis in our already
taxed environment for our residents and the SA Police Department.

SAHNA also opposes any possible requests to expand and approve the current hours of operation that are
permitted by the City. The current hours permitted are appropriate for a family restaurant.

Most Sincerely,

Susana Sandoval, Co-chair Santa Ana Healthy Neighborhoods Alliance
Santa Ana Resident 35 years
Community Volunteer at Lathrop School

1
