brs 3/29/23 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2023-022 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF SCIENCE, <br />TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS <br />(STEM) FOCUSED AMENITIES FROM THE UNIVERSITY <br />OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION TO <br />PROMOTE STEM LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AT <br />MADISON PARK AND ANGELS COMMUNITY PARK <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines, <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. The University of California, Irvine School of Education's STEM Learning Lab <br />research team reimagines public park spaces with Science, Technology, <br />Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning activities and experiences. <br />B. The STEM Learning Lab leverages these principles to promote rich learning <br />opportunities in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math in the <br />places children and families spend time, such as parks, bus stops, <br />playgrounds, and grocery stores. <br />C. Young children learn best where they can work together when learning <br />opportunities are integrated into the places they already go, when they are <br />actively engaged, and when experiences are meaningful and relevant to their <br />daily lives. <br />D. STEM -focused amenities such as Parkopolis, Fraction Ball, Number Ball, <br />Loteria, and How Tall Am I aim to promote STEM learning opportunities. <br />E. Installation of Fraction Ball and Number Ball, as a painted overlay on the <br />basketball court at Madison Park, will promote fraction and decimal learning. <br />F. Installation of the Parkopolis life-sized board game at Madison Park will <br />promote math and science learning through physical activity. <br />G. The total value of the above STEM -focused amenities and installation have an <br />approximate value of $209,584. <br />H. These STEM -focused amenities will be donated to the City at no cost. <br />Section 2. The City hereby accepts the donation and installation of the STEM - <br />Resolution 2023-022 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
