The City may authorize employees to use sick leave, vacation, or <br />compensatory time for approved workers' compensation medical <br />appointments as specified herein. The City may authorize use of such leave <br />for City approved medical appointments whenever such appointments <br />cannot be secured outside the employee's regular workday, and salary <br />continuation or workers' compensation benefits are not available. <br />D. Limit. <br />1. For all employees in the bargaining unit or who are currently employed by <br />the City in a full-time position at the time of City Council approval of this <br />2022-2025 MOU, the maximum total accumulation of sick leave with pay <br />shall be two hundred (200), eight (8) hour working days equal to sixteen <br />hundred (1,600) hours. <br />2. For employees hired as new employees from outside the City into this <br />bargaining unit after the date of City Council approval of this 2022-2025 <br />MOU, the maximum amount of sick leave they may carry over into a <br />calendar year is three hundred and fifty-two (352) hours. <br />Any sick leave accrual above three hundred and fifty-two (352) hours (up <br />to ninety-six (96) hours) will be converted into an employee's Retirement <br />Health Savings ("RHS") Plan account during the first full pay period in <br />January of each year. <br />3. Sick leave usage of less than a full day shall be charged in minimum <br />increments of one-half (1/2) hour, with fractional usage rounded upward to <br />the next higher multiple of one-half (1/2). <br />E. Extended. The City Manager may grant leave up to six (6) months without pay to <br />an employee who has exhausted all of their accrued sick leave if a licensed <br />physician designated by the City Manager indicates that the employee shall be <br />sufficiently recovered to return to their employment within a six (6) month period. <br />Prior to the expiration of the additional time, the employee may return to their <br />position provided that the employee has a certificate from a licensed physician <br />stating that the employee is able to perform all the duties of their position without <br />qualification. In addition to the above, the City Manager may grant a further <br />extension not to exceed a total of one (1) year without pay. <br />F. Extension by Use of Accrued Compensatory Time Off and/or Vacation. After an <br />employee's sick leave has been exhausted, they may be granted permission to use, <br />first, any unused compensatory time off benefits, then, any unused vacation leave <br />benefits they may have accrued. <br />G. Notice. The employee taking sick leave shall notify their immediate supervisor <br />either prior to or within four (4) hours after the time they are scheduled to report <br />for duty, or as otherwise established by departmental regulations.
