In fact most of my family still reside within Ward 2 boundaries and I can confidently say,without any doubt, that they feel the same way about these issues.Today, I am raising my own 2 children in Ward 3 and am hopeful that conditions within our city will improve. I want to share a story with you all. When my son was 7, he asked one Sunday if he could have a donut for breakfast. Although on any other day this would be a quick answer"no", today was different, afterall... he was turning 7. We loaded up the family and went to our neighborhood donut shop. You know, the one that has been there for decades serving delicious treats to our city residents. We climbed out of our vehicle only to find that the sidewalk was being blocked by someone clearly under the influence of some sort of substance. My children stopped in their tracks. I wish I could say it was because we had never seen this before. It was not. Instead of a small simple celebration of a 7 year old child innocently picking up his favorite donut, it became a moment that became a high alert to safety situation which by children have never forgotten. How does anyone in our City Leadership think that this is ok?That there is nothing that can done? Do our own Leaders think that our kids deserve to travel our city streets and it be "normal"for someone to be intoxicated, yelling at strangers, blocking bus stops or sidewalks? THIS IS NOT OK! As a resident of Ward 3 1 am asking you to support Item#39 on the agenda. We need to start putting safety for residents in the forefront. This is a good step in the right direction.
