Orozco, Norma
From: April Lopez <
Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2023 7:18 AM
To: eComment
Subject: Support taking actions against drug abusers.
Dear Santa Ana City Council,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing issues we are facing in our city regarding drug abuse and
public disturbances. It is disheartening to witness the distressing scenes of individuals overdosing, engaging in public
urination, exposing their genitals, and even collapsing on sidewalks while our children are present. This normalization of
trauma is simply unacceptable.
I commend Councilman Phil Bacerra for taking action and addressing this urgent matter. His proposal to have the City
Council examine the available options for dealing with this problem is a step in the right direction. Specifically,
instructing the Police Department to detain individuals who violate state laws and transporting them to the Santa Ana
Jail for processing, while also providing information on substance-abuse treatment services prior to their release,
demonstrates a comprehensive approach to the issue.
Allowing unchecked drug use to persist within our city is undoubtedly having a detrimental impact on our community. It
is imperative that we no longer choose inaction as a response. I wholeheartedly support Councilman Bacerra's initiative
and urge the Santa Ana City Council to back this proposal.
Please be assured that taking decisive action to address this problem will not only improve the safety and well-being of
our residents but also set an example for other communities grappling with similar challenges. Let us work together to
create a city that prioritizes the safety, health, and future of its citizens.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
April Lopez
Sent from my iPhone
17
