I'm a husband, father, and local church leader in Santa Ana where we believe that "As parents, we have a sacred duty to rear our children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs" (The Family: A Proclamation to the World). Allowing rampant drug use and individuals passing out in public areas has had a detrimental impact on our beloved city. It not only compromises the quality of life for residents but also poses a significant risk to public health and safety. The proposal to instruct the City Manager to have the Police Department detain individuals who violate state laws related to drug abuse and transport them to the Santa Ana Jail for processing is a proactive step towards addressing this issue. Furthermore, I appreciate the provision in the proposal that emphasizes the importance of offering information on available substance-abuse treatment services to individuals before their release. This approach demonstrates a commitment to not only deterring drug abuse but also providing an opportunity for those struggling with substance addiction to seek the help they need.
