Admissions <br />As a prospective student, you are encouraged to review this catalog prior to signing an enrollment <br />agreement. You are also encouraged to review the School Performance Fact Sheet, which must be <br />provided to you prior to signing an enrollment agreement. <br />Ability to Benefit Student <br />An "ability to benefit student" means a student who does not have a certificate of graduation from a <br />school providing secondary education, or a recognized equivalent of that certificate. <br />Pacific College does not admit Ability to Benefit (ATB) students to academic programs as all academic <br />programs require a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent for admission. <br />English Language Proficiency <br />All academic work is conducted in the English language, and only the English language. A student must <br />have the ability to read and write English at the level appropriate for the credential -level of their studies. <br />Pacific College does not offer translation service nor English language learning classes. <br />An applicant for an undergraduate degree program whose native language is other than English shall <br />have a score of 450 (paper -based), or 133 (computer -based), or 45 (internet-based) on the Test of <br />English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or 4.5 on the International English Language Testing System <br />(IELTS), or 750 on the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) Listening and reading <br />test, or 825 on GTEC CBT, and must send their official scores to the Admissions Office. <br />An applicant for a graduate degree program whose native language is not English shall have a score of <br />500 (paper -based), or 173 (computer -based), or 61 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign <br />Language (TOEFL), or 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or 750 on the <br />Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) Listening and reading test, or 975 on the GTEC <br />CBT, and must send their official scores to the Admissions Office. A student who has the minimum TOEFL <br />or IELTS score and begins or continues their degree program may be advised to enroll in an English <br />language course to strengthen their language mastery. Any enrolled student who exhibits difficulties with <br />the English language may be referred to the program director for review and for suggestions to remedy <br />any deficiencies. <br />Exemptions <br />An undergraduate applicant may be exempted from the TOEFL or IELTS standards if s/he can present <br />proof of one of the following: <br />• Have graduated from a secondary educational institution (high school) where English is the principal <br />language of instruction (U.S.A. or foreign). Prior education originates from countries in which the official <br />primary language is English. <br />• Have completed English composition with a grade of "C" or better and 60 transferable semester (90 <br />quarter) units from a regionally accredited institution in the United States. <br />A graduate applicant may be exempted from the TOEFL or IELTS standards if s/he can present proof of <br />one of the following: <br />• Have completed prior education from a regionally accredited United States institution. <br />• Have attended postsecondary educational institutions where English is the principal language of <br />Pacific College 2022-2023 Catalog <br />
