If what I have heard is true, the reason for removing this magnificent tree which is
listed on the national Big Tree Index, is to facilitate a number of parking spaces-please tell me that this is some
form of a joke, designed to illicit a response from residents.
If this is indeed true, I am astounded that in 2023 with all of the knowledge that we have as a society and human
race about trees and their importance, that this decision could be made.
The city has a page on their website entitled `Santa Ana's Urban Forest"-link below:
Santa Ana's
Urban Forest t
-City of r
Santa Ana ' " Ak
SANTA •
One section within there includes a document which gives 10 reasons why trees are important: anyone involved
in this decision making process needs to visit that page and after reading that please tell us why a number of
parking spaces are more important-it defies common sense and reeks of small minded-ness. Could anyone draft
a document which states the reasons why parking spaces are of similar importance?Unlikely. This tree has been
here before any of us were alive, and if you act quickly, it will be here long after as well.
I am asking you, the leaders of the city and the representatives of the citizens, to urgently rethink this short-
sighted and narrow minded decision, for the love of nature and urban beauty.
Jason Carrig
Historic French Park resident
3
