Orozco, Norma
From: Sonia Fernandez <
Sent: Tuesday, August 15, 2023 8:08 PM
To: eComment
Subject: AUG 15 IN SUPPORT OF AGENDA ITEM 14
*Corrected agenda item 14
Good evening mayor and council members,
My name is Sonia Fernandez
I have been a resident of Santa Ana for 14 years -Ward 3
I urge the council to support Item 14-directing SAPD to enforce public intoxication laws.
I believe the priority for the safety of the tax paying citizens of Santa Ana has been pushed to the
side long enough.
Mental health for our children and the entire Santa Ana community is your responsibility as leaders.
• Watching someone shoot up while at a red light, nodding off at the bus stop next to you, or walking
down the middle of street half naked on the way to school does not provide a healthy environment.
Is this what you want for our community? The memories that people will have of this city and of
their childhoods?
I would like to remind you that you work for the RESIDENTS of Santa Ana-your constituents that
have voted for you.
• Some of the council members are blurring the purpose of this request.
I would like to clarify that there are subcategories of homeless: there are the ones willing to accept
help and are working hard to overcome their hardships,
and there are the ones who decline the help time and time again, suffering of drug addiction and
mental health conditions that do not allow them to keep themselves safe or make the right decisions.
1
