The MacLaren Community
Park provides 5.33 acres of new park space and is
designed around a central pedestrian promenade
as the organizing element allowing for a variety of
community events and recreation. A Performance
Pavilion is located at the terminus of the central lawn
The soccer field is sized for use as an adult and
Olympic training facility and can also be divided into
smaller sized fields for youth soccer or softball. Pre
School and Grade School Age Playgrounds include
play equipment on a resilient surface with an artificial
turf play mound surrounded by permeable paving.
Two Adult Exercise Areas are situated within a short
distance from the youth play area and basketball
courts with the intent to create an intergene rational
activity zone.
Storm water is captured and treated through
numerous bio-swales, permeable paving areas,
and infiltration wells. A California native garden is
proposed adjacent to the parks'west entrance for
high visibility and a Children's discovery/learning
garden is adjacent to the Playground to encourage
exploring nature as a part of creative play.
This project was recently submitted for Prop 68 State
Park Program funding.
Client: Chief Executive Office - County of Los Angeles
and City of El Monte
Contact: Betty Donavanik, Director of Community &
Economic Development
Completed: 2021
Consultant Project Manager: Kirk Keller
27
