between approximately 60 feet and 110 feet. All six bridges are single -span prefabricated steel truss bridges,
bearing upon cast -in -place concrete abutments. The designs of the superstructures of the prefabricated trusses
were prepared and submitted by the contractor during the construction phase. Kleinfelder provided the abutment
designs and specifications for contractor superstructure designs.
Chinquapin Sewer Lift Station — Metal Roof Canopy Design: Kleinfelder provided the structural design of a
steel frame canopy supporting a standing seam metal roof, which was placed on an existing masonry enclosure.
The canopy has a sloping roof with height that varies from 6 inches to 2.5 feet above the existing masonry wall.
The supports for the canopy were bolted to the masonry wall with post -installed anchors. The roof framing was
designed in accordance with the 2010 California Building Code. Kleinfelder provided structural plans and
calculations, and a site visit prior to start of design to observe the existing structure and take photos and
measurements documentation.
Kleinfelder provided expert project management, structural engineering, Civil Site
design, and geotechnical engineering for the design of the 2.4-MG recycled water
reservoir. Kleinfelder's responsibilities included oversight and site layout design,
reservoir design, appurtenance design such as strainers, backwash system, valve,
and vault, overflow system, stormwater drainage system, and pipelines. The
reservoir is partially buried, and the overall site layout required the design of
concrete block retaining walls. Mechanical elements at the reservoir site included
flow metering equipment, strainers to remove shells and other debris from the untreated water entering the
reservoir from Irvine Lake.
As part of the geotechnical study, Kleinfelder evaluated four reservoir sitting alternatives. A detailed geotechnical
investigation was required to identify historical landslides and abrupt changes in geological formations beneath
the site to optimize the reservoir location.
As part of the civil site design, Kleinfelder developed the site layout plans including temporary excavation and
access road plans, final grading and access road designs, retaining wall layouts, and the site stormwater
-conveyance system.
