NS-XXX <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AMENDING ARTICLE XI OF CHAPTER 33 OF <br />THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE (STREETS, <br />SIDEWALKS AND PUBLIC WORKS) RELATING TO <br />CEREMONIAL STREET NAMING <br />WHEREAS, on August 2, 2022, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. NS-3024 <br />amending Chapter 33 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code (Streets, Sidewalks and Public <br />Works) by adding Article XI enabling ceremonial naming of streets to recognize <br />outstanding individuals or events that have made a significant impact on the community; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the number of streets in the City are finite; and <br />WHEREAS, a limitation on the manner and number of ceremonial street signs for <br />any one individual or event is needed to maximize the opportunity to honor Santa Ana <br />individuals or events deserving of recognition; and <br />WHEREAS, this limitation shall not apply retroactively to any ceremonial streets <br />that have already been designated by the City Council. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The recitals above are each incorporated by reference and adopted <br />as findings by the City Council. <br />Section 2. Section 33-260 (General provisions) of Article XI of Chapter 33 of the <br />Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br />Sec. 33-260. - General provisions. <br />(a)Only entire blocks of public streets or intersections may be granted ceremonial <br />street names. <br />(b)A ceremonial street naming application may only be initiated by: <br />(1)A resident or owner of a property abutting the street; or <br />(2)Neighborhood or community groups; or <br />(3)A current City Councilmember. <br />EXHIBIT 1
