22 <br />H. For specifics regarding this Article, please refer to Santa Ana Police Department <br />Training Bulletin 02-07 - Scheduling of Training Days and Travel Time <br />Compensation. <br /> <br />7.3 Reimbursement. <br /> <br />A. Reimbursement will be based on the cost of tuition or registration fees and all <br />required texts, eBooks and related material for each course. Additional expenses <br />such as meals and parking fees are not reimbursable. <br /> <br />B. Costs for required texts and eBooks are eligible for one hundred percent (100%) <br />reimbursement subject to the following conditions: <br /> <br />1. For textbooks: a duplicate of the required textbook(s) was unavailable for <br />loan from the departmental libraries prior to the commencement of <br />coursework; <br /> <br />2. For textbooks: any textbook(s) purchased by the City shall be submitted to <br />the employee's respective departmental library in order that such text(s) may <br />be made available to all employees. <br /> <br />C. Tuition or registration costs of one hundred dollars ($100.00) or less are eligible for <br />one hundred percent (100%) reimbursement. Tuition costs in excess of one hundred <br />dollars ($100.00) are eligible for seventy-five percent (75%) reimbursement. <br />Maximum tuition reimbursement per semester is five hundred dollars ($500.00) <br />with a maximum of $1,500 a year. NOTE: Summer and winter sessions shall be <br />counted as separate "semesters" for purposes of the program. <br /> <br />D. Employees shall be limited, for purposes of tuition reimbursement, to a maximum <br />of two (2) collegiate level courses of not more than a total number of units which <br />is equivalent to six (6) "semester" units per semester. One (l) "quarter" unit shall <br />equal two-thirds (2/3) of one (1) "semester" unit. <br /> <br />7.4 Procedures. <br /> <br />A. An employee who desires to seek tuition reimbursement under the provisions of <br />this Article must complete an Application for Training and Educational Assistance <br />form and submit it to the Police Chief. <br /> <br />B. The Police Chief will recommend approval or disapproval and forward the <br />application to the Human Resources Department. It is advisable that the applicant <br />accomplish the procedures so far described prior to the inception of the course or <br />disbursement of personal funds in order to ascertain the eligibility of the intended <br />course of instruction for reimbursement under the provisions of this policy. <br /> <br />C. Within three months after they have completed the course and received their final <br />grade, the employee must include official verification of their final grade with <br />appropriate receipts for tuition and textbook costs to the Human Resources
