28 <br />work, or retract their offer to replace another officer, may be subject <br />to disciplinary action and may not be permitted to volunteer to work <br />in this manner in the future. <br /> <br />6. The watch commander shall send out an e-mail message to all officers <br />requesting a volunteer to cover the shift by switching days off or working <br />on overtime. <br /> <br />7. When a compensatory time off request is made in a manner that does not <br />comply with this policy, and granting that request would unduly disrupt the <br />operations of the department, the department may deny that request. <br /> <br />8.5 Incremental Usage. Compensatory time off may be taken in increments as small as one- <br />half (1/2) hour. <br /> <br />8.6 No Effect on Other Benefits. Overtime is not pensionable, employees do not earn <br />additional leave accruals and it does not count toward the completion of the probationary <br />period or progression to the next salary step. <br /> <br />8.7 Overtime Work to be Apportioned. To the extent that he is reasonably able to do so, the <br />Police Chief shall arrange work programs to minimize overtime work; necessary overtime <br />work shall be apportioned among employees of like classification and assignment. <br /> <br />8.8 Advance Compensation for Overtime. Compensatory time off earned within a pay period <br />cannot be used within the same pay period. <br /> <br />8.9 Compensation for Overtime: Overtime pay or comp time shall be allowed an employee <br />for attendance at conventions, conferences, seminars or the like, as long as prior <br />authorization is received. Overtime pay or comp time pay shall be permitted only for <br />attendance which is ordered on such employee’s normal days off or for time beyond a <br />normal workday’s duration. Please refer to Santa Ana Police De partment Training Bulletin <br />02-07 for details. <br /> <br />8.10 Call-Back and On-Call. <br /> <br />A. Employees who are on call during their off-duty time due to their assignment (i.e., <br />Homicide Investigators, Internal Affairs Sergeants, Crimes Against Persons <br />Sergeants, etc.) and are called back to work will be paid for their travel time at the <br />overtime rate from the time they leave their home until the time they return home, <br />or until their regularly scheduled shift begins. Only that period of time devoted to <br />work will be compensated. If employees are not home when they are called back <br />to duty, they will receive their normal home to work travel time or if closer to City <br />than their home, travel to that location and back. <br /> <br />1. Employees who are on-call are subject to the following: <br /> <br />Employees are required to promptly return to work after being called and be fit <br />for duty and able to respond. Employees on call are not permitted to drink
