Community Development Agency <br />santa-ana.org/cd <br />Item # 9 <br />City of Santa Ana <br />20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 <br /> Staff Report <br />October 19, 2021 <br />TOPIC: Appoint Gail Araujo and Dr. Marilyn Flores to the Workforce Development Board <br />AGENDA TITLE: <br />Appoint Gail Araujo to represent the Social Services Agency and Dr. Marilyn Flores to <br />Represent Title II Adult Education to the Workforce Development Board <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Appoint Gail Araujo for a partial term expiring May 31, 2023 (replacing Snapper) to <br />represent Social Services Agency and Dr. Marilyn Flores representing Title II Adult <br />Education to the Workforce Development Board. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On May 17, 2016, the Santa Ana City Council adopted Resolution 2016-031, establishing <br />the Santa Ana Workforce Development Board (WDB) and appointing 25 members. In <br />accordance with the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Section <br />107(b)(2)(A-D), a local WDB is to be composed of representatives from specific <br />categories and that the number of WDB members in the categories is to be proportional <br />in different ways to the total membership while maintaining a greater-than-50-percent <br />representation from the business sector. WDB members are to be appointed by the City <br />Council under the categories of membership, prescribed by law, as follows: <br />Category of Membership Number of Members <br />Representatives from local businesses 13 members <br />Representative from labor, labor <br />registered apprenticeship, and/or <br />community based organization) <br />5 members <br />Representatives from local education <br />institutions <br />3 members <br />Representative from government entities <br />(Dept. of Rehabilitation, Social Services <br />Agency, EDD, and Economic <br />Development) <br />4 members
