FREE RECORDING PURSUANT TO <br />GOVERNMENT CODE § 27383 <br />Resolution No. 2021-XXX <br />Page 1 of 4 <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2021-XXX <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION APPLICATION <br />NO. 2021-06 TO PLACE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />2307 NORTH BENTON WAY, SANTA ANA, ON THE <br />HISTORICAL REGISTER AND APPROVING HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2021-06 PLACING <br />SAID PROPERTY WITHIN THE KEY CATEGORY <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines, and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. On July 1, 2021, the Historic Resources Commission held a duly noticed <br />public hearing for the placement on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties (Historic Resources Commission Application No. 2021-06) and <br />categorization (Historic Resources Commission Categorization No. 2021- <br />06) of the Martha Ann Brooks House located at 2307 North Benton Way, <br />Santa Ana. <br />B. The Martha Ann Brooks House has distinctive architectural features of the <br />Ranch style and was built in 1951. <br />C. The Martha Ann Brooks House qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana <br />Register of Historical Properties under Criterion 1 as an unusual example <br />of the hacienda variant of the Ranch style. The property is also notable as <br />the residence of Martha Ann Brooks, a long-time Santa Ana resident, and <br />her husband, Walter L. Brooks, a former city council member. The <br />recommended categorization is “Key” because the property has a <br />distinctive architectural style and quality as an example of the hacie nda <br />variant of the Ranch style. Character-defining features of the Martha Ann <br />Brooks House that should be preserved include, but may not be limited to: <br />horizontal, one-story massing; low-pitched and side-gabled roofs covered <br />in clay barrel tiles and displaying carved brackets in the overhanging <br />eaves; partial-width open porches tucked beneath the gable roof; metal- <br />framed, multi-paned windows and front entry; and exterior walls of brick or <br />stucco that suggest adobe. <br />D. The legal owners of the property are Benjamin and Nicolette Ellen-Valdez <br />Ramirez. <br />E. The legal description for the subject property is attached hereto as Exhib it <br />A and incorporated by this reference as though fully set forth herein. <br />Historic Resources Commission 2 –5 7/1/2021
