Parks, Recreation, and Community Services <br />https://www.santa-ana.org/parks <br />Item # 14 <br />City of Santa Ana <br />20 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701 <br /> Staff Report <br />April 20, 2021 <br />TOPIC: Purchase Order Contract for Shade Canopies at Fitness Courts at City Parks <br />AGENDA TITLE: <br />Award a Purchase Order Contract to Dave Bang Associates, Inc. to Provide Fabric Shade <br />Canopies over the Fitness Courts Located at Cabrillo, Delhi, El Salvador, Heritage, <br />Jerome, Lillie King, Rosita and Thornton Parks, in an Amount Not to Exceed $151,401.62 <br />(Non-General Fund) <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Award a purchase order contract to Dave Bang Associates, Inc. to provide custom fabric <br />shade canopies over the fitness courts located at Cabrillo, Delhi, El Salvador, Heritage, <br />Jerome, Lillie King, Rosita and Thornton Parks in an amount not to exceed $151,401.62, <br />subject to non-substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />There are eight fitness courts located in City parks (Cabrillo, Delhi, El Salvador, Heritage, <br />Jerome, Lillie King, Rosita and Thornton Parks) throughout the city. The installation of <br />shade canopies over the fitness courts is essential in protecting participants from the <br />harmful effects of sun exposure experienced in Santa Ana. In addition, the shade <br />canopies will significantly lower temperatures and provide up to 98 percent UV protection, <br />help keep the equipment surfaces cool, and ultimately make the fitness court more <br />comfortable for users. <br />Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase against contracts <br />from any public agency utilizing a competitive bid process. The Colton Joint Unified <br />School District contract with Dave Bang Associates, Inc. for playground equipment & DSA <br />(division of shade architects) shade shelters was awarded as a result of open, competitive <br />bidding, and meets the City’s requirements. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />There is no environmental impact associated with this action. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are budgeted and made available in the following accounts for the specified year:
