Ca1PERS members whose effective date of retirement is within four (4) months of <br />separation from employment. <br />B. Military Service Credit as Public Service (Government Code §21024) <br />An employee may elect to purchase up to four (4) years of service credit for any <br />continuous active military or merchant marine service prior to employment. The <br />employee must contribute an amount equal to the contribution for current and prior <br />service that the employee and the employer would have made with respect to that <br />period of service. <br />C. Pre -Retirement Death Benefits <br />1. Optional Settlement 2W Death Benefit (Government Code &21548) <br />The spouse of a deceased employee, who is eligible to retire from service at the <br />time of death, may elect to receive a Pre -Retirement Optional Settlement 2W <br />Death Benefit. The benefit is a monthly allowance equal to the amount the <br />employee would have received if they had retired from service on the date of <br />death and elected Optional Settlement 2, the highest monthly allowance an <br />employee can leave a spouse. <br />2. Fourth Level 1959 Survivors Benefit (Government Code §21574) <br />D. Post -Retirement Death Benefits <br />Post -Retirement Survivor's Allowance (PRSA) for continuation of benefits even <br />after remarriage (Government Code §21624, 21626 and 21628). <br />E.
