For the past 30 days, the world has witnessed a harrowing human tragedy unfold in Gaza. Continuous airstrikes have resulted in the loss of approximately 11,000 innocent civilians, of which over 4,000 are children. The relentless bombardment has left 1.5 million people displaced and the city in ruins. Hospitals, schools, and refugee camps have been targeted, essential services have been cut off, and prohibited weapons, including white phosphorus, have reportedly been used, further exacerbating the crisis. Our community is a tapestry woven from many threads, including Muslim and Palestinian members, and others from various backgrounds who are deeply affected by these events. They have lost family members and friends in these attacks, and they suffer the anguish of knowing the plight of their loved ones under siege. It's a pain that is both personal and profound, and it resonates throughout our community. Acknowledging this crisis and issuing a statement of solidarity will send a powerful message of hope and unity. It will demonstrate to the members of our community, and to the world, that we are unwavering in our commitment to human rights and the sanctity of human life, irrespective of race, religion, or geography. It is a necessary and compassionate gesture that honored the values we uphold as a community. I trust that the Council will consider this request.
