ONE-SIDED, HYPOCRITICAL RESOLUTION
I understand the proposed resolution (1) fails to condemn Hamas for its October 7th atrocities; (2) refuses to
recognize that a civilized, moral society cannot ever permit intentional and gruesome crimes committed against
innocent civilians, e.g., murder, torture, rape, mayhem, and public desecration of victims' bodies; (3) neglects to
demand the immediate return of Israeli hostages; (4) does not insist upon an immediate surrender by Hamas
wrongdoers; and (5) declines to plead for peace negotiations. In other words, the resolution expresses concern
about innocent Gazan civilians (which is fine) but [i] refuses express corresponding concern about innocent
Israeli citizens (which is an appalling double -standard) and [ii] indicates no desire to see a viable long-term
resolution to the ongoing conflict. So, the council's proposed resolution is the quintessence of hypocrisy. A
moral, ethical person would express concern about all the innocent victims and would seek a solution. Such
one-sidedness reflects prejudice and discrimination by this council. Is this council really that depraved and
immoral? Does this council truly reject fundamental notions of DEI? By adopting this resolution, this council
will be telling the world that Santa Ana is an ugly place that approves of bigotry and unfairness.
The proposed resolution is sadly consistent with the local school district's misstep in illegally adopting a
discriminatory ethnic studies curriculum geared to indoctrinate the next generation of Jew -haters. I cannot speak
for the school district's legal counsel, but if I were that attorney, I would be begging the council to drop the
resolution. It just makes Santa Ana look like a hotbed of Jew -hate and would give the plaintiffs' attorneys more
evidence.
CONTEXT & HARM
Jews worldwide are still reeling from the October 7th Hamas atrocities - the single deadliest day for Jews since
the Holocaust. It's personal for us: every Jew knows someone who was massacred or kidnapped. If that weren't
enough, many of us have experienced and/or witnessed recent acts of antisemitism, and we live in fear of
increasingly violent and unlawful protest activity. Indeed, Nazi Germany has been reincarnated here in 21 st
Century Southern California. Resolutions like yours encourage Jew -haters to do more to harass and harm local
Jews ... and why? We American Jews have no control over events that in Israel. None, whatsoever. So, your
efforts would increase Jew -hate and Jew harm but with no corresponding benefit (as if there ever could be a
benefit from bigotry).
CONTEXT & INEFFECTUALITY
Ceasefire resolutions might be a trendy far -left public gesture, but they affect nothing in the Middle East.
Backstory and context: on a nearly -nonstop basis since 2007, Hamas has been lobbing rockets toward civilian
areas in Israel. On October 7th, Hamas took its civilian death campaign to a diabolical new level. It was the
proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.
Like any nation, Israel has a fiduciary and ethical obligation to protect its diverse citizenship. Given the heinous
new heights of the most recent Hamas offensive, Israel has understandably determined that Hamas must be
wiped out. Accordingly, Israel has important military objectives: (1) destroy Hamas' war machine; (2)
neutralize Hamas personnel; (3) rescue hostages; (4) minimize civilian casualties (notwithstanding Hamas'
dedicated human shield tactics). In the context of Israel's important obligations to its own people, what makes
this council think Israel cares about the Santa Ana city council's desire for a ceasefire? Especially when this
council's resolution demonstrates one-sided, hypocritical bigotry and an utter lack of concern about innocent
Israelis? Pro tip: Israel could not care less about the desires of the Santa Ana city council, especially if the
council is sending a bigoted, one-sided, unhelpful message.
[CONTINUED] ........................................
HISTORY & PERSPECTIVE
Israelis want peace and a quick end to the war. Unfortunately, the historical record demonstrates that a ceasefire
m
