This resolution, in its one-sided approach, relies on several false narratives, placing
the entire blame for the current conflict on Israel as it defends itself against Hamas terrorists. These terrorists openly aim to
destroy Israel and commit genocide against its citizens and Jews globally.
While the loss of life is tragic wherever it occurs, it's essential to recognize that none of those lives would have been lost if
Hamas hadn't initiated the massacre, rape, and kidnapping of innocent civilians on October 7, individuals who were simply going
about their lives. The resolution fails to acknowledge this reality.
Moreover, this resolution does nothing to contribute to the well-being of the people in Gaza, who have endured nearly two
decades of forceful rule by Hamas. The organization has diverted resources from its own people to pursue a destructive
campaign against Israel. If Hamas chose peace and encouraged its population to live harmoniously with Israel, Gaza could
potentially thrive.
Approving this biased resolution won't foster peace or tolerance; instead, it risks exacerbating the hate and antisemitism already
evident in our community. It's disheartening to witness locally elected officials contributing to this environment when they are
sworn to combat bias and all forms of hate.
his issue hits close to home for me, as I have family in Israel, and the constant fear for their safety weighs heavily on my mind.
The rise of antisemitism is not just a distant concern; it's a threat that directly affects our well-being here. By endorsing a
resolution that leans towards falsehoods and promotes extreme hate, we risk further exacerbating the already challenging
atmosphere we face.
I believe in the power of understanding, compassion, and genuine dialogue to bridge divides. Let's work towards a solution that
fosters peace and unity rather than contributing to the tensions that put our community at risk.
