I have lived in Santa Ana most of my life. I have
come to see and understand the importance of living in dignity and peace, so I urge you to vote yes in
supporting a resolution for a Ceasefire. These past 59 days, I have seen the destruction and despair that the
Palestinian people in Gaza have faced. Growing up, I learned of what happened in the holocaust, and I always
asked myself what I would have done if I was a witness to something like that. Well, it's 2023, and I am
witnessing the ethnic cleansing, and I can either say it is a complicated issue or stand in solidarity with the
people of Palestine.
I am choosing not to stay silent and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and asking all of you also not
to remain silent and to stand in solidarity. The occupation and the massive destruction of Palestinian
neighborhoods in Gaza are something that we cannot pretend is not happening. They, too, deserve the right to
live in dignity and peace. So, I urge you to vote yes in supporting a resolution for a Ceasefire. The more that we
come together in calling out the Occupiers, the harder it is for them to commit these atrocities.
Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.
Blessings,
Maria E. Valencia
PS: Our liberation as a community is tied to the Palestinian Liberation.
