Alcala, Abigail
From: Maria Ceja <
Sent: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 10:22 AM
To: eComment
Subject: In Support of Council Member Requested Item #19
Greeting City Council,
I am writing in support of the council member requested item 419 to direct the Interim City Manager to prepare
a resolution to call for an immediate Ceasefire in Gaza. The Insitute for Middle East Understanding (IMEU) has
reported that Israel has murdered over 21,000 Palestinians since October 7th, more than half being children and
women. IMEU also reports that 80 percent (1.9 million people) of Gaza's population has been displaced as a
result of the constant bombardment that they have faced these past 2 months that is funded by OUR TAX
DOLLARS! This is 6 times the current estimated Santa Ana population! Even when Israeli forces designate an
area as a "safe zone" they still bomb and attack Palestinians in these areas, a strategy aiming to harm and
constantly displace people from their homes, cities, and neighborhoods. Since the temporary pause ended, Israel
has escalated their attacks on Gaza, targeting homes, schools, and hospitals. I ask the City Council and staff to
empathize with the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as the Palestinian people who call
Santa Ana and Orange County their current home and who have loved ones who still reside in occupied
Palestine. I ask that you put yourself and their shoes and imagine that you, your family, and the generations
before you were living through this terror for the past 75 years and 2 months. Let's follow the steps that cities,
such as Oakland, CA, Atlanta, Georgia, Akron, Ohio, Wilmington, Delaware, Providence, Rhode Island, and
multiple cities in Michigan, across the United States, have already taken, calling for an immediate and
permanent Ceasefire in Gaza.
Thank you,
Maria Ceja
(Santanera)
