VROC
was created in 2013 when 5 LGBTQ+ Vietnamese Americans were rejected from participating in
cultural celebrations on the belief that "LGBT is not part of Vietnamese culture." In response, we fought for
inclusion of our humanity as being both Vietnamese and queer. Today, VROC uplifts the different multiple
intersectional identities that queer, trans Vietnamese Americans have, as well as the issues that they may face
because of them.
In our work towards advancing justice here in Orange County, we also must remember that injustice anywhere
is a threat to justice everywhere. The genocide that is happening in Palestine is an issue that affects us all and
has particular resonance with the AAPI community here in the US, especially for our Vietnamese
community. What is happening in Palestine is an all too familiar story for Southeast Asian refugees and
descendants of refugees. We condemn these atrocities and the genocide of Palestinians.
We urge the Santa Ana City Council to pass a resolution in solidarity with the Palestinian People in Support of a
Ceasefire. Thank you.
Warmly,
Uyen Hoang, MA, MPH (she/they)
Executive Director
ROC
Website I Facebook I Instagram I Linktree
Schedule a meeting with me I Hear my name pronunciation
