COUNCILMEMBER-REQUESTED ITEM
TITLE #19: Discuss and Consider Directing the Interim City Manager to Prepare a
Resolution for City Council's Consideration to Call in Support of a Ceasefire in Gaza
Hello,
My name is Tatiana Zavala. I am emailing to urge the city council to support an immediate and permanent
ceasefire in Gaza, and the safe passage of substantial humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.
Since October 7th, over 13,000 Palestinians have been murdered. Over 5,500 of those murders have been
children. I urge the Santa Ana city council to proclaim their support for Palestine, to denounce the horrific acts
being committed by the state of Israel by opposing all existing and any future military aid to Israel, and to call
in support of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
To be clear, it is crucial to distinguish between criticizing the actions/policies of the state of Israel, and
harboring any kind of anti-Semitic sentiment. My disagreement with Israel's specific governmental decisions
should not be misconstrued as an attack on the Jewish people as a whole. I strongly urge the city of Santa Ana
to continue advocating for the dignity and safety of residents in every community, regardless of what crimes its
leadership may commit. Peaceful diplomacy is the only way to achieve this safety and dignity.
As stated in the proposed resolution, "the historical memory of the Holocaust requires us to speak out when we
see atrocities being committed against innocent people, no matter their identity." I urge the council members in
Santa Ana to heed this call.
Thank you for your review and consideration.
Best,
Tatiana Zavala
