Araiza, Fatima
From:
Carolina Mendez <
Sent:
Tuesday, December 05, 2023 5:26 PM
To:
eComment
Subject:
Item #19
Hello,
My name is Carolina Mendez, resident of Anaheim and member of Chispa, an OC-based political home for
Latinx young people in the county. Many of our members are residents of Santa Ana, and tonight I am one of
many non-residents who are standing in support with their call for you to demand a ceasefire now.
I'm writing to you to express my support of Item 419.
Recent Data for Progress polls (Nov 22-25) indicate a growing desire for a permanent ceasefire among U.S.
voters, with 66% of likely voters, and 79% of Democrats, supportive. Despite this, our national leaders,
including the President and Congress, have remained largely unresponsive.
Appeals made to Democratic Representatives like Rep. Katie Porter and Rep. Lou Correa have similarly been
disregarded. It's imperative that local officials like you demonstrate their commitment to peace and justice by
raising their voices against the atrocities inflicted upon our Palestinian brethren. History illustrates that genuine
demands for justice often originate from the grassroots level— we ask that you listen to them.
We implore you to stand on the right side of history and echo our call for a ceasefire. Take the opportunity to
demonstrate your political courage and have the resolve to align with the wishes of your constituents. They have
clearly communicated their desire for peace. Now it's your turn to listen and act.
Respectfully,
Carolina Mendez
