Good Evening, My name is Manahil Awan and I'm a Policy Fellow at The Council on American -Islamic Relations, Los Angeles Chapter (CAIR-LA). I would like to thank Councilmember Benjamin Vazquez and CouncilmemberJohnathan Hernandez for bringing forth this the Resolution in support of the Palestinian People of Gaza, and calling for a ceasefire. I implore you to lend your voices to the call forjustice and humanity by passing the Resolution in Solidarity with Palestinian People in Support of a Ceasefire. We have witnessed the injustices of the occupation of Palestine, where Israeli occupation forces have massacred 20,000 Palestinians since October 7, including a heartbreaking number of 8,000 children and displaced 1.7 million Gazans. The world is watching, and Santa Ana, a beacon of diversity and inclusivity, has a unique opportunity to stand on the right side of history. This resolution calls for Santa Ana to be a leader in human rights for all people. In our community, Arabs and Muslims contribute immensely to the rich tapestry of Santa Ana's cultural diversity. Their voices, experiences, and heritage are integral parts of the very fabric that makes Santa Ana unique. By passing a resolution demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire, Santa Ana has the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, compassion, and a commitment to protecting families from the backlash of hate crimes. We urge the Santa Ana City Council to vote yes in support of the resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
