Araiza, Fatima <br />From: Emine YILDIZ < <br />Sent: Tuesday, December 05, 2023 10:14 PM <br />To: Amezcua, Valerie; Lopez, Jessie; Phan, Thai; Vazquez, Benjamin; Bacerra, Phil; <br />Hernandez, Johnathan; Penaloza, David; eComment <br />Subject: Re: Resolution in Solidarity with Palestinians in Support of a Ceasefire <br />Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor and Council members, <br />I am so disappointed in you that after listening to the testimonies and statements of all the people who spoke <br />tonight as well as the many many emails you received regarding this beyond urgent issue as well as the many <br />who were waiting in queue, including myself, who did not get to speak on the issue, that you were unable to put <br />aside all other hindrances and just stay "stop" to the merciless killing of innocent lives. <br />I cannot wrap my head or heart around what could possibly be holding you back from calling for a ceasefire, an <br />end to the unapologetic murdering of babies, children, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts, grandmas and grandpas. <br />When it is your turn to speak, everyone speaks of the trauma, discrimination or violence that they themselves or <br />their families were subject to, why then can we not show empathy to the thousands upon thousands who are <br />literally being subject to genocide in front of our very eyes? Why?!! <br />True leadership is shown through actions not just words. True leadership is upholding the values we claim to <br />stand for despite the backlash it may bring. <br />Those who claim that calling for a ceasefire will bring division into the community are exactly the ones who are <br />perpetrating and fueling that division they refer to. How can calling for peace be a form of division. How can <br />we achieve unity through more killing? <br />Will you kindly explain this to me?!! <br />You claim to not be experts in international politics. Neither am L But we do not need to be experts to know <br />that when it our hard earned tax dollars that fund a brutal occupation and genocide overseas, it becomes as local <br />an issue as any other. <br />We are all part of one human family, and tonight you (excluding the council members who called for the <br />ceasefire) have failed to stand up for your fellow brothers and sisters. You have failed in showing true <br />leadership.
