Palestine who are facing a genocide. I thank wholeheartedly Jonathan Hernandez and Ben Vasquez
for remaining steadfast in including the cease-fire clause into the initiative. I realize that those who
object to the ceasefire might be doing so for political gain. I completely understand it is a hard choice
for you, but in the end, you will have to live with yourself as Israel’s mass murder of innocent
Palestinians to extermination will not eliminate Hamas or any resistance movement to follow in their
place. Palestinians and Palestinians with Israeli citizenship must live in dignity and have the same
equal rights and live in one democratic state with Israelis. #No justice, no peace. Also, I was shocked
by Mayor Amezcua’s comment at the end to the remaining attendees, who were in opposition to us,
that if they were scared to leave the chambers they could stay inside. Mayor Amezcua, are we human
animals as Israeli Defense Minister Gallant calls Palestinians?
You must understand that we Arab Americans, Palestinian Americans, and our allies, who
represented the majority in defending the initiative proposed, were not happy with the outcome, and
we are the ones struggling against a U.S. administration that is biased against Palestinians much
before October 7th.
We are not against Jews and are not Antisemitic. In fact, we protest in solidarity with Jewish Voice for
Peace, and If Not Now, who have done a tremendous job in bringing the 75 years of Israeli
occupation and injustice against the Palestinians to the forefront by organizing amazing, mass
demonstrations throughout the United States (e.g., Grand Central Station in New York). Our struggle
is against Zionism of all forms, including White Christian Zionism, NOT Jewish people. Please
understand the clear difference between the two.

Best,

Diane Shammas, PhD
International, Intercultural, and Urban Higher Education
Former Professor, Diversity Education, American Ethnic Studies,
Research Methods, and Research Writing
Shammas Properties
DSS Management Inc.
DS Holdings 1, DBA Washington Blvd.
th
DS Holdings 2, DBA 18 Street
1929 Auto Center West, LLC
3133 Fig Flower, LLC
Auto Center LLC
Email: dshammas@shammasproperties.com
Cell: (
3
