Resolution No. 2023-XX <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2023-xx <br />A RESOLUTON OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA DIRECTING AND <br />AUTHORIZING A CEREMONIAL STREET <br />NAME OF JOSEPHINE "CHEPA" ANDRADE <br />WAY ALONG LOGAN STREET FROM <br />WASHINGTON AVENUE TO STAFFORD <br />STREET <br />WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana (hereinafter referred to as the “City”) is a charter <br />city and municipal corporation duly organized and existing pursuant to and under the <br />provisions of the laws of the State of California; and <br />WHEREAS, on August 2, 2022, the City Council for the City of Santa Ana approved <br />Ordinance No. NS-3024 amending Chapter 33 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code (Streets, <br />Sidewalks and Public Works) by adding Article XI enabling ceremonial naming of streets <br />to recognize outstanding individuals or events that have made a significant impact on the <br />community through the commemorative or honorary naming of streets or intersections; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on June 6, 2023, the City Council for the City of Santa Ana approved <br />Ordinance No. NS-3042 amending the language of Chapter 33, Article XI of the City’s <br />Municipal Code to restrict the quantity of signs to two (2), when recognizing outstanding <br />individuals who have made a significant impact on their community through the <br />commemorative or honorary naming of streets or intersections; and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 33, Article XI of the City’s Municipal Code, as amended, <br />details the application process including the procedures, fees, and details for when and <br />how said procedures and fees may be waived by the City Council; and <br />WHEREAS, Josephine “Chepa” Andrade has made a profound and lasting impact <br />on the Logan Neighborhood due to her activism and efforts to fight poverty, <br />homelessness, injustice and hunger; and <br />WHEREAS, Councilmember Hernandez initiated a request to honor the legacy of <br />Josephine “Chepa” Andrade to recognize the lasting cultural impact she brought to the <br />City of Santa Ana; and <br />WHEREAS, ceremonial Josephine “Chepa" Andrade Way sign toppers are <br />proposed to be installed at the intersections of Logan Street at Washington Avenue and <br />at Logan Street at Stafford Street; and <br />WHEREAS, Chapter 33, Article XI of the City’s Municipal Code, as amended, <br />requires a resolution for the approval of the ceremonial sign toppers; and <br />EXHIBIT 3
