Over 100 <br />artists, activists, and other community members volunteer to organize this <br />public and collective manifestation of our Latine traditions and culture in <br />Santa Ana. Poets, altar -makers, public artists, musicians, and dancers <br />come together to connect to people's loss, loves, experiences, and also <br />connect to the current struggles taking place in our community. Noche de <br />Altares has become a Santa Ana tradition to honor our muertitxs by <br />bringing community members from different places and ethnicities together <br />through art, culture, and compassion. <br />Describe the <br />Noche de Altares is a deep form of community engagement to connect to <br />community benefits <br />each other while also ensuring that our attendees receive education and <br />of this event <br />information about their own culture and traditions. Noche de altares is an <br />opportunity to learn, participate, and reflect about the importance of our <br />ancestral roots, identity and struggles. Participants also learn about the <br />various community based organizations that exhibit altars to share the <br />history behind their work and the various leaders and individuals who have <br />passed but worked to transform our neighborhoods, communities, and <br />cities through housing, worker and immigrant justice. Participants in the <br />organizing of the event also benefit from learning how to produce public art, <br />poetry, altars, music, and dance, that connect our social justice work to our <br />communities stories of life, loss, and struggle. The event also benefits the <br />various schools, students, and teachers who participate in the event as <br />part of their educational curriculum.
