Attachment 1 <br />Comment 5: The ZOA would remove the discretionary approval process and less hotel <br />development oversight by the elected City Council. In comparison, other cities <br />see the need for more oversight to mitigate potential negative impacts, such as <br />the City of Los Angeles, which recently passed a new CUP requirement <br />{appealable to its City Council} for all hotels proposed in Hollywood and <br />Downtown Los Angeles. <br />Response: Each city crafts its ordinances to address its vision, goals, and context. While <br />some cities may elect to permit certain uses by right or through the issuance of a <br />conditional use permit, it is up to the community and its elected officials to <br />determine what is the best approach on a case -by -case basis. <br />
