Flores, Dora
From: Aiya Kanawati <
Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2024 1:55 PM
To: eComment
Subject: No More Genocide- Non -agenda Item
Dear City Clerk,
E-comment:
Thank you for the time and invaluable work you provide our community. I would like to urge Council to support a
Ceasefire resolution in Palestine. Every ten minutes, a child is killed in Palestine. We teach our children to love and
appreciate each other but how can we ask our children to do that if we cannot speak up when our government is
supporting the genocide of a human race? How can we not speak up when our tax dollars are solely financing the white
phosphorus, bunker busting bombs and "hellfire" missiles that eject blades upon impact? How are we supposed to carry
out our daily jobs when we know that on the other side of the world, our money is being used to erase family lineages
and thousands of years of history?
Many of us know that Palestinians have a long history of resisting their colonization. We can spend days discussing the
massacres and expulsions Palestinians experienced which led to millions of them living as diasporic refugees around the
globe. But what does not take much time, is looking at the current situation. 1 child dead every ten minutes. Looking at
the current impacts of our ignorance. And furthermore understanding that when 36,000 human beings are unalived in
the span of four months, their murder is intentional and targeted. Unfortunately, we can't erase the suffering that
Palestinians have endured. However, we can make sure that our money no longer contributes to the suffering of other
human beings. How many more dead men, women, grandmas, grandpas, and children do we need to spectate over
before we say no more? The answer is more than 14,000 children, yet we are still silent. Every ten minutes of our
silence, equates to one child that does not get to stay on earth.
When we say "Never Again" we mean "Never Again for Everybody".
Best,
Aiya Kanawati
