Describe the Cooperacion Santa Ana's event will benefit the community by featuring the <br />community benefits vibrant, traditional, and cultural art of coffee cultivation and production as <br />of this event well as the local arts and culture of collectivism and resilience that has <br />created the worker -owned cooperative movement in Santa Ana. These <br />strong community assets help to increase a sense of cultural identity and <br />appreciation for Santa Ana's community -minded residents. Beyond a <br />delicious beverage, coffee serves as a powerful symbol of collaboration <br />and empowerment within the cooperative movement, fostering community <br />spirit and economic justice one cup at a time. <br />La Milpa Cafe, a worker -owned cooperative bakery and cafe, will lead an <br />interactive discussion about the source of the coffee at the event: a small <br />coffee farm in La Sierra Norte de Oaxaca. During a demonstration of <br />traditional coffee preparation, La Milpa Cafe will share the history of coffee <br />in our communities and their worker cooperative. Coffee -based beverages <br />and desserts from the cooperative will be available during the event for all <br />attendees to enjoy, free of charge. <br />SALSA Food Hub, a worker -owned urban farming cooperative, will host an <br />educational presentation on coffee bean cultivation and composting coffee <br />grinds for the event participants. SALSA will facilitate a special kid -friendly <br />workshop for families to practice vermicomposting: the use of worms to <br />support the decomposition of coffee grinds and other compost materials. <br />Each family will receive a vermicomposting kit to take home and use. <br />Careshare OC, a worker -owned childcare cooperative, will be on -site to <br />facilitate safe, and unique arts and crafts -making activities with the children <br />at the event. These activities will include using coffee grounds to paint and <br />make DIY flowerpots with coffee compost starters for their new succulent <br />plants. <br />The presentations and story -telling discussions will help increase <br />community knowledge of traditional cultural practices surrounding the <br />cultivation and uses of coffee. It will also inform the participants about now <br />cooperative businesses in Santa Ana. Residents will also share stories <br />about their dreams of building a business and how it will impact the local <br />economy, uplift their culture, and build a more vibrant future for Santa Ana. <br />Local artists will provide music and decorations for the event. Cooperacion <br />Santa Ana anticipates at least 50 Santa Ana residents in attendance, <br />highlighting Santa Ana's rich arts and culture centering on the traditional art <br />of coffee. The event will be advertised using designs created by a local <br />artist and these designs will uplift the culture of collectivism of worker - <br />owned cooperatives. These designs celebrate and promote the indigenous <br />roots of coffee cultivation and consumption alongside the backdrop of <br />cooperativism and how it flows throughout the local Santa Ana economy. <br />Stickers with these designs will be distributed for free at the event. Local <br />photographer Felipe Ramirez will also capture photographs from the event <br />so that its impacts can be shared with a wider audience. <br />Amount Requested 6124.0 <br />
