Chispa March 4, 2024 Mayor Amezcua and City Councilmembers 20 Civic Center Plaza Santa Ana, CA 92701 ecommentna.santa-ana.ore Via Email RE: ITEM 18 - SUPPORT City Resolution Calling in Support of an Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza Dear Mayor Amezcua and City Councilmembers, I write on behalf of Chispa to express our support for the Resolution of the City Council of Santa Ana to call for an Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza. The City of Santa Ana (City) must commit to voicing their humanitarian support for civilians in Gaza, and for the safety of all Palestinian people against anti -Palestinian rhetoric and hate. The death toll in Gaza has tragically exceeded 25,000 innocent Palestinian lives, with more than half of them being children. As an organization that seeks to engage with excluded peoples to uproot systems of oppression and cultivate community accountability, solidarity, and self-determination for our communities to thrive, we believe in the liberation of all people and acknowledge the decades of suffering and displacement experienced by Palestinians and their struggle to reclaim their fundamental human rights. Chispa stands in solidarity with Palestinians' right to self-determination, peace and freedom from settler colonialism, military occupation, land theft, and ethnic cleansing. We believe all children and youth deserve to live free from fear and all people deserve safety and peace. We stand with the Palestinian community calling for self determination, freedom, and true peace that ends the decades long violence of the status quo. For these reasons, Chispa urges you to pass this resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, joining the ranks of four cities in Southern California, including Cudahy, Long Beach, Pomona, and Montebello, in this crucial step towards peace.
