Flores, Dora <br />From: Katie Newman < <br />Sent: Tuesday, March 5, 2024 2:21 PM <br />To: eComment <br />Subject: 3-5-24 Agenda Item 18 - Support Resolution for a Ceasefire in Gaza <br />Good Afternoon Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, and Councilmembers, <br />My name is Katie Newman, I am a resident and homeowner of the 4th Ward, in the Thorton Park neighborhood. <br />I am writing IN SUPPORT of Agenda Item 18, Resolution in Solidarity with Palestinians to Support a <br />Ceasefire in Gaza. <br />To my Councilmember Phil Baccerra, we understand that the City Council is not the Model United Nations, <br />however this is an opportunity to be a Model to Our Nation. <br />A majority of our country supports a permanent ceasefire. Please help magnify the voice of your constituents. <br />We are one of the densest cities in the United States and the Civic Center of Orange County. This resolution <br />shows we DO NOT want Santa Ana tax revenue funding genocide. That we instead honor cross-cultural <br />connection, community building, care for the most vulnerable, and believe that everyone deserves the chance to <br />both be a kid, and to grow old. <br />Finally, while I understand that you have received a significant number of form emails stating to be from the <br />"Local Jewish Community." I want to note that these persons are not residents of Santa Ana, nor do they <br />represent the entirety of the Jewish community (thousands of whom have actually been leaders in the demand <br />for a ceasefire). <br />Thank you for considering this resolution, I hope with all of my being that you pass it! <br />Sincerely, <br />Katie Newman, Thorton Park, Ward 4 <br />
