Flores, Dora
From: Karen Jaffe <
Sent: Friday, March 1, 2024 1:13 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Don't Waste City Money
Dear Council,
I hope this email finds you well.
As a concerned resident of our vibrant community, I am writing to bring to your attention a matter that has been of
significant concern in recent months.
It has come to my notice that many city halls across the nation, including ours, have been engaging in discussions related
to the war in the Middle East.
While global events undoubtedly have an impact on us all, it is my belief that municipal discussions should primarily
focus on matters directly relevant to our community.
In the City of Irvine, the prolonged open comments on this international issue have unfortunately led to an atmosphere
of hate and divisiveness in our city hall meetings. This divisive environment has, regrettably, extended its reach to our
local schools, adversely affecting our children's learning environment.
I want to draw your attention to the positive steps taken by the City of Irvine on 2/27/2024, where a resolution was
passed to cease discussions on the Middle East conflict during city hall meetings. This decision, supported by three
council members, marked the beginning of a healing process for our community.
Considering the potential impact on community harmony, diversity, and inclusion, I urge you to consider presenting a
similar motion during our city council meetings. By taking this proactive step, we can prevent the division that has
affected other communities and protect the unity and inclusivity that make our city so special.
I firmly believe that our community will support such a resolution, as it reflects our shared commitment to maintaining a
positive and cohesive environment for all residents. Let us work together to ensure that our city remains a beacon of
unity, understanding, and diversity.
Thank you for your time and dedication to serving our community. I trust that you will carefully consider this matter for
the benefit of us all.
Karen Jaffe
21
