City Council 9 01/16/2024 <br />MINUTES: <br />3.Drew Snittson spoke regarding the proposed amendments related to fireworks. <br />4.Daniel Thomas spoke regarding the proposed amendments related to fireworks. <br />5.Cenorino Gomez (translation: Spanish) expressed concern regarding the <br />amendments related to hotels. <br />6.Jenny Rodriguez (translation: Spanish) expressed concern regarding the <br />amendments related to hotels. <br />7.Elvia Espinosa (translation: Spanish) expressed concern regarding the amendments <br />related to hotels. <br />8.Parker Shea expressed concern regarding the amendments related to hotels. <br />9.James Brine expressed concern regarding the amendments related to hotels. <br />City Clerk Jennifer L. Hall stated there were no additional speakers and reported out the <br />summary of one (1) email comment received. <br />There being no additional speakers, Mayor Amezcua closed the Public Hearing at <br />7:23 P.M. <br />Councilmember Hernandez thanked staff for the presentation, spoke regarding the <br />amendments, and requested a continuation of recommended action no. 3. <br />Councilmember Bacerra thanked staff for the code amendment updates, spoke <br />regarding the proposed amendments, and spoke in opposition to the hotels and <br />communication facilities amendments. <br />MOTION: Councilmember Bacerra moved to approve the recommended action <br />for Agenda Item No. 27, as amended to remove the provisions for motels, hotels <br />and wireless communication services, seconded by Councilmember Hernandez. <br />MINUTES: Councilmember Penaloza spoke in support of the item except the <br />provisions regarding hotels and communication services. <br />Councilmember Phan spoke in support of recommended action nos. 1 and 2 and <br />spoke regarding displacement of housing and the importance of Transient <br />Occupation Tax (TOT) and hotels. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Lopez thanked staff for the presented staff report and spoke in <br />opposition to hotel amendments. <br />Councilmember Penaloza spoke regarding safety and security at hotels.
