RESOLUTION 2024-005 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA, <br />CALIFORNIA CALLNG FOR THE RELEASE OF ALL <br />HOSTAGES HELD BY HAMAS, HUMANITARIAN AID FOR <br />CIVILIANS IN GAZA, AND A PERMANENT BILATERAL <br />CEASEFIRE IN GAZA THAT RECOGNIZES ISRAEL'S <br />SECURITY AND RIGHT TO EXIST AND A FREE <br />PALESTINIAN STATE <br />WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana believes that all people regardless of race, color, <br />national origin, sex, and religion should be able to live with dignity, freedom, and equality <br />without fear; and <br />WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana condemns the rise of Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, <br />racist, and xenophobic attacks in our City and across the nation; and <br />WHEREAS the current Israel-Hamas War has resulted in the rape, torture, and <br />death of over 1,200 Israelis and the capture of over 240 hostages, including United States <br />citizens, children, and the elderly, by Hamas and the death of over 30,000 Palestinians, <br />including over 14,000 children, by the State of Israel; and <br />WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana recognizes that a bilateral ceasefire, <br />humanitarian aid, and good faith diplomacy must occur in order to save the lives of <br />innocent Palestinians and Israelis. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City of Santa Ana hereby condemns terrorism, authoritarianism, <br />violence, and hate in all its forms. <br />Section 2. The City of Santa Ana will continue to track and report on hate crimes <br />occurring in its jurisdiction and promote diversity, dignity, and cross-cultural collaboration; <br />and <br />Section 3. The City of Santa Ana calls on Congress and the President of the <br />United States to demand the release of all hostages held by Hamas, the release of <br />prisoners held in Israel who have not been convicted in a court of law, humanitarian <br />assistance for civilians in Gaza, compliance with international law by warring combatants, <br />and a permanent bilateral ceasefire that recognizes Israel's security and right to exist and <br />a free Palestinian state in the form of a two -state solution. <br />Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the City Clerk shall attest to and certify the vote of the adoption. <br />Resolution No. 2024-005 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
