Flores, Dora
From: L S <
Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2024 8:38 AM
To: eComment
Subject: City Council Meeting - Agenda Item 24 Comments
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Good Morning,
I am reaching out in regards to the City Council Meeting Line Item 24.
Protesting is a fundamental right protected by the first amendment, an individuals right to protest should not be
limited in any way shape or form. Elected officials are supposed to represent their constituents, not lobby
groups.
Lately protests have been aimed towards the conflict in Gaza. A conflict where 10's of thousand innocent lives
have been taken by Israel's collective punishment. Individuals wanting to silence/limit free speech primarily
argue that "conflict on foreign soil does not affect us". That is incorrect, billions of American tax dollars are
given to foreign countries such as Ukraine and Israel annually for military use. The American people have the
right and responsibility to voice their concerns over this, especially when elected officials turn their backs on
them.
See the first amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or
abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
(link: https://constitution.con rg ess.gov/constitution/amendment-1/)
Thank you,
