City of Santa Ana Emergency Operations Plan
Part I Basic Plan
No active, potentially active, or inactive earthquake faults are known to exist in Santa Ana; however, the San
Joaquin Hills Fault runs along the 405 Freeway just outside the southern border of the City. The City is also
located in close proximity to the Newport -Inglewood Fault Zone and the Whittier -Elsinore Fault Zone, two major
faults in the Southern California region. The San Andreas Fault, the largest fault in California, is less than 50 miles
from Santa Ana and would affect the City should a major earthquake occur. The south-central portions of the
City and areas with lower elevations along the Santa Ana River may be subject to liquefaction in the event of a
major earthquake. s
Figure 14 Orange County Earthquake Fault Zones
N Orange County
Fault Zones
®_ .
c OIIM1"1'F' 0 L05.5.Y'ELE .•
ruueRrox F- T
pu
ALMcrACYPRES
y
G! K
LIMIT OR.xOE
WxoOROVF
Cx ST4INSTER IN \
sexTa.x. The Whittier Fault lies at the top center where it is correctly labeled. The San Joaquin Hills Fault does
not appear on this map but runs along the 405 Freeway south of the City border.
a GP Land Use Element
14
