It is also important as a contributor to the French Park Historic District. <br /> According to previous research, the house was constructed in 1900 for Reverend J.H. Cooper, Pastor of the First <br /> Congregational Church. In 1905, retirees William and Emma Block were the occupants. Marlin and Florence Shields, new <br /> residents from Mono County, California, bought the house and twenty acres of land on Irvine Boulevard in 1911.
