Victim Intervention Program (VIP) activities (VIP) include:
1. Outreach: Frequent collaboration with CBOs and local faith communities, such as Olive Crest, Catholic Charities,
Salvation Army, OC Legal Aid, St. Olaf Lutheran Church, and First Lutheran Church. VIP proactively participates in
community engagement opportunities and is enlisted in the Orange County 2-1-1 CoC and Coordinated Entry
System to strengthen community referral networks and deliver continuity of care in victim services.
2. Screening and Needs Assessment: Provide walk-in and referral program participants with immediate safety
assessment to identify dangers, medical needs, legal and law enforcement needs. After eliminating immediate
danger, onsite social workers help to identify social service needs. Participants go through eligibility screening to
determine DV/IPV history and income verification to access subsequent support, including financial assistance,
emergency assistance, and more.
3. Emergency Assistance and Housing Stabilization Services: Provide emergency assistance to meet physical
needs, such asfood, hygiene, clothing, and transportation, including short-term rental assistance, crisis/bridge
housing (hotel/motel vouchers), utility payment assistance, and housing navigation/placements services.
4. Behavioral Health Counseling: Provide free -of -cost in -person and telehealth behavioral health counseling
services. The program has a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), MSW Interns (under the supervision of the
LCSW), and a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) to provide support to participants through DV/IPV trauma,
PTSD, and other mental health challenges. Through a trauma -informed approach, each session is aimed at
cultivating a safe environment for survivors to share their unique stories, needs, and progress. Additional referrals
are made to third -party providers for follow-up, diagnosis, substance abuse disorder treatment, or severe mental
health challenges.
5. Intensive Case Management: VIP Case Managerwill follow up on participants' progressthrough one-on-one
case management sessions and provide direct service referrals and resource linkages. Case Managers will
corroborate with local domestic violence shelters and permanent housing providers to successfully transition
participants to stable housing. Additional self-sufficiency planning (ISSP) is conducted to identify goals and
establish recovery milestones.
6. Independent Living Skills: Through case management, counseling, and support groups, participants are
equipped with critical life skills and coping skills that are essential functions to regaining their confidence, safety,
and self-sufficiency. These include dressing, grooming, bill payments/budgeting, house management, meal
prepping, community engagement, job readiness, and more.
