ORDINANCE NS-922 AM_ENDING THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL <br />CODE BY AMENDING SECTION 4124.1 OF PART 2, CHAPTER 1, <br />ARTICLE IV THEREOF TO REGULATE THE KEEPING OF WILD <br />ANIMALS WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That Section 4124.1 of Part 2, Chapter 1, <br />Article IV of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended to <br />read in words and figures as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 4124.1. Wild Animals Not Permitted in City: Exceptions. <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or maintain, or <br />cause to be kept or maintained, within the City of Santa Ana <br />any wild animal as described in Section 4124, except that the <br />following wild animals may be kept or maintained: canaries, <br />chinchillas, chipmunks, cockateels, finches, gopher snakes, <br />guinea pigs, hamsters, king snakes, marmoset monkeys, parrots <br />and like birds, squirrel monkeys, turtles, tropical fish (except <br />caribee), white mice, and white rats. Said excepted animals'are <br />found not to pre~ent threats to human life 6r health. <br /> <br /> The provisions of this Section shall not prohibit the keeping <br />or maintaining of the following wild animals within the City of <br />Santa Ana: <br /> (1) Wild animals in zoos or museums--any wild animals which <br /> are kept confined in zoos, museums, or any other place <br /> where they are kept as live specimens for the public to <br /> view. <br /> <br /> (2) Wild animals in circuses, carnivals, exhibits or shows-- <br /> any wild animals which are kept and confined and placed <br /> on exhibit in a circus, carnival, or any other type of <br /> exhibit or show. <br /> (3) Wild animals in bona fide, licensed veterinary hospitals <br /> for treatment. <br /> Dangerous or poisonous reptiles may be maintained by bona fide <br />educational institutions for the purpose of instruction provided <br />such reptiles are securely confined and are properly cared for in <br />a manner satisfactory to the Chief of Police. <br /> <br /> SECTION 2: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days <br />from and after the date of its adoption. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />Ana at its regular meeting held on the 1st day of July, 1968. <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE ) <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, DORIS M.
