ORDINANCE NS-881AMENDING THE SAiqTAANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION 8442 TO <br />CHAPTER 4 OF ARTICLE VIII TO LIMIT THE <br />PROJECTION OF SIGNS ON MAIN STREET <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by virtue of an agreement between the State of California <br />and the City of Santa Ana, the projection of signs over public property <br />has been limited on State highways; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on or about July 1, 1967, the status of Main Street in <br />this City as a State highway terminates and these limitations will no <br />longer apply nor be enforceable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, signs erected on Main Street after the termination of <br />Main Street as a State highway and prior to the adoption of new <br />City-wide regulations, may subject the owners of existing signs to <br />a considerable advertising disadvantage. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That an ordinance be adopted as an interim measure <br />to maintain existing limitations until such time as new City-wide <br />regulations are adopted and that Chapter 4 of Article VIII of the <br />Santa Ana Municipal Code be hereby amended by adding thereto a new <br />section to be numbered 8442 to read in words and figures as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 8442. Projection over Public Property <br /> <br /> No advertising structure, commercial sign, nor accessory <br />sign erected or constructed upon premises abutting Main <br />Street shall project over the public property constituting <br />the Main Street right of way except as permitted in the <br />following Table by the clearance of the bottom of such <br />sign above the level of the sidewalk or grade immediately <br />below: <br /> <br />CLEARANCE <br /> <br />MAXIMUM PROJECTION <br /> <br />Less than 7 feet <br />7 feet to 8 feet <br />8 feet <br />8 feet to 16 feet <br /> <br />Over 16 feet <br /> <br />Not Permitted <br />6 inches <br />1 foot <br />1 foot plus 6 inches <br /> for each foot of clearance <br /> in excess of 8 feet <br />5 feet <br /> <br /> SECTION 2: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days <br />from and after the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Santa <br />kna at its regular meeting held on the 19th day of June, 1967. <br /> <br />CLER~ OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />VICE~M3kYOR <br /> <br />STATE OF CALIFORNIA) <br />COUNTY OF ORANGE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA ) <br /> <br />SS <br /> <br /> I, DORIS M.
