ORDINANCE NS-983 AMENDING THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION 8314.1 TO CHAPTER 3, ARTICLE VIII THEREOF TO REQUIRE FUTURE SERVICE CONNECTIONS ON STRUCTURES TO BE PLACED UNDERGROUND WHEREAS, it is anticipated that in the near future newly installed public utility services will be installed underground ; and WHEREAS, such utility services as are replaced will also be installed underground; and WHEREAS, in order to facilitate the use of such underground facilities it will be necessary that those structures employing such utilities be equipped with underground connections thereto; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: That there is hereby added to Chapter 3 of Article VIII of the Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 8314.1 to read in words and figures, as follows: Section 8314.1. Underground utility Connections Required On-Site. Section 230-29 is hereby added to the beginning of Part D, Article 230, Chapter 2, of the Electrical Code to read as follows: 230.29. Underground utility Connections Required on Site. Whenever any property is developed with new or relocated buildings or structures; or whenever floor area in excess of fifty percent (50%) of the existing floor area is added to an existing building; or whenever a residential building or use is converted to any purpose or use other than that which existed at the time of the conversion, all electrical, telephone, community antenna television and similar service wires or cables which provide direct service to the property being developed, added to, or converted, shall, within the exterior boundary lines of such property, be installed underground. Conduits required for telephone or community antenna television shall be installed to utility specifica- tions by the electrical permit holder prior to inspection of electrical conduit. Lots of record as of November 19, 1969, which are developed for R-1 use, are exempted from the requirements of this Section. The powers granted the advisory agency by Section 9336 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code are hereby conferred upon ~t for the purposes of this Section. SECTION 2: That this Ordinance shall take effect thirty days from and after the date of its adoption.
